Pygela (or Phygela) was a small town of ancient Ionia on the coast of the Caystrian Bay, a little south of Ephesus, located near Kuşadası. Its founding is attributed in Greek mythology to the Mycenaean king Agamemnon. Its ruins lie right down on "Pygela Beach" and are partly drowned.

South of Ephesus, on the shore of the gulf of Kuşadası, stood a small Ionian town whose foundation myth credits Agamemnon, though the archaeological finds point to a first settlement in prehistoric times. Occupation is thought to have run unbroken from the Early Bronze Age to the Middle Byzantine period. For a long time some scholars located the town at Yılancı Burnu; excavations in 1975 by Hikmet Gürçay and Ekrem Akurgal fixed the site and, in the same stroke, put on record that most of the city had been opened to development and built over with tourism facilities. A holiday village now stands on the flat ground of the Hellenistic agora, and a hotel and picnic area above the harbour.
