The chief city of the Thracian Chersonese, today's Gelibolu peninsula, founded at the head of the gulf of Saros. It was essentially a colony of Miletus and Clazomenae, joined by Athenian settlers in the late sixth century BC. That did not make it pro-Athenian: when Athens took control of the Chersonese in 357 BC, Kardia was the only city to stay neutral under the rule of a Thracian prince, and in 352 BC it signed a treaty of friendship with Philip II. Lysimachus destroyed the town around 309 BC, and although it was rebuilt it never regained its former prosperity.

- In 343 BC, when the Athenian mercenary Diopeithes tried to bring Attic settlers into the city, a serious crisis broke out; Kardia refused them and Philip promptly sent help.
- Philip offered to settle the dispute by arbitration and the Athenians refused.
- After the rebuilding, the region's main city became nearby Lysimachia, filled with Kardia's own people.
- The city was the birthplace of Eumenes, general, satrap and successor of Alexander, and of the soldier-historian Hieronymus of Cardia.
