Miletus (Hittite Millawanda) was an ancient Ionian port city in western Anatolia, on the Aegean coast near the mouth of the Maeander River. It now lies in ruins near the village of Balat in the Didim district of Aydın Province; because its harbour was silted up by the Maeander, the site is now some 10 km inland from the sea.
