Editor's Note
Priene was an ancient Greek city of Ionia located at the base of an escarpment of Mycale, about 6 kilometres north of what was then the course of the Maeander River. The city was originally built on the sea coast, but because of silting from the river filling the bay over the centuries it is now an inland site. It lies a short distance west of the modern village of Güllübahçe in the Söke district of Aydın Province.
