Story
It stands 24 km northeast of Erzurum, on the south bank of the Çökender, a tributary of the Aras. The mound is named after Sos, the former name of the neighbouring village of Yiğittaşı. It measures 270 by 150 metres and rises 20 metres. Antonio Sagona dug here from 1994 to 2000 and separated five layers: the lowest building level dates to the Late Chalcolithic (3500-3000 BC), the topmost layer to the medieval period (AD 1110-1300). Like Karaz, Pulur and Güzelova, Sos represents an unbroken culture from the Late Chalcolithic into the Bronze Age, herding-led because of the climate. Village houses now cover every side but the northern one.
