Story

The Manisa Mevlevi Lodge, this historic structure located in Şehzadeler, was built in the seventeenth century as a spiritual center for the Mevlevi dervishes. Its inner courtyard, adorned with stone and timber architecture, transports visitors to the mystical atmosphere of the Ottoman era. Now serving as a museum, the building documents the cultural life of the period through rich collections ranging from the handicrafts of local artists to religious texts. The lodge was a center of musical and Sufi tradition; the spaces where the sema whirling ceremony was performed are preserved with reverence to this day. That the building's original Ottoman tilework can still be seen in some sections brings its historical layers to light. An essential stop for understanding Manisa's spiritual heritage, it is best visited in the morning light, when you can see its architectural details at their finest.
