Turkey's first toy museum opened on 20 April 1990 within Ankara University, led by the educationalist Prof. Bekir Onur. Its purpose is preservation: keeping toys that rapid social change threatens to erase. Among the 1200 pieces on display are traditional Turkish toys alongside German-made examples from 1840, and the collection supports research into industrial, cultural, educational and childhood history. The museum now operates under the supervision of the Ethnography Museum Directorate.
