Giresun Museum is housed in a historic 18th-century basilica known as the Gogora Church, in the Zeytinlik neighbourhood of Giresun. Built of rectangular yellow and brown limestone, the basilica was abandoned in 1923, used as a prison between 1948 and 1967, and redesigned as a museum in 1988.
