Editor's Note
The Ulucanlar Prison Museum in the Ulucanlar quarter of Ankara's Altındağ district occupies a former state prison that operated from 1925 to 2006. The first prison built after the founding of the Republic, it holds an important place in Turkish political and literary history. Following restoration by Altındağ Municipality in 2009–2010, it opened as a museum in 2011, displaying belongings of journalists, writers and politicians imprisoned for their views, alongside wax figures of inmates placed in the restored cells.
