Editor's Note
Mazı Underground City is an ancient subterranean settlement in the Cappadocia region of central Turkey, 18 km from Ürgüp and 10 km from the Kaymaklı Underground City. Known anciently as Mataza, its presence dates back to the Roman period and it bears Byzantine-era features. It is carved perpendicular to the valley slope, with four access points, a main entrance that could be sealed with a millstone, barns, a winery and a church reached by a short corridor.
