Editor's Note
This is the tomb of Mehmed I (Mehmed Çelebi), the fifth Ottoman sultan. A son of Bayezid I, he fought his brothers for the throne during the Ottoman Interregnum (1402-1413), then brought first Anatolia and then Rumelia under his control, reuniting the Ottoman state by 1413. For this he is sometimes called the empire's 'second founder'; he reigned from 1413 to 1421.
