Story
A church in the Altındağ district of Ankara, built in the fourth century for Saint Clement, then bishop of Ancyra. Other churches, monasteries and cathedrals are known to have stood in the city during the Byzantine period, but because this is the only one still standing it counts as Ankara's sole Byzantine church. It was converted into a mosque in 1458, burned completely in the Ankara fire of 1916 and abandoned. What remains today is a single wall and a marble block bearing a Latin cross whose horizontal arms were chiselled away. A few salvaged capitals and window frames are displayed at the Roman Baths open-air museum.

- During Diocletian's persecution Clement refused to turn pagan, was shut in a cave and tortured, and in 312 was beheaded by a Roman soldier during a liturgy.
- The church was turned into a mosque in 1458, under Murad II, by Ahmed bin Hızır Yeğen Bey.
- The building resembles a closed Greek-cross church rather than a domed basilica, but because the original design also included aisles it is read as a transitional work.
- It was registered as a monument by decision no. 2167 of 12 April 1980.
