Pityussa (also Pityusa or Pityoussa) is an ancient settlement and shipyard on Dana Island, in the Silifke district of Mersin. Founded together with Aphrodisias on the mainland just to its west, the city gained independent status in the Roman period and took the name Pityussa. It developed close trade relations with important centres such as Cyprus, Egypt, Aphrodisias, Komardias, Holmi and Seleukeia.
