Boztepe, also known as Mount Minthrion, is a hill about 3 kilometers southeast of Trabzon's city center, with the Değirmendere Valley to its east. The area has been religiously significant since antiquity and has four sacred fountains; near the summit stands a mosque that was formerly a nineteenth-century church, which may itself have replaced an ancient sanctuary to Mithras, possibly the origin of the name Minthrion.
