Editor's Note
The Frederick Barbarossa Memorial stands beside the Silifke-Konya road in the Silifke district of Mersin Province. Holy Roman Emperor Frederick I drowned in the Göksu River near here on 10 June 1190, while marching with his army to Palestine during the Third Crusade. The monument was erected at the site by the German Embassy in 1971.
