Editor's Note
The Battle of Chesma took place on 5-7 July 1770 off the bay of Çeşme, between the western tip of Anatolia and the island of Chios, between the Ottoman and Russian navies. Part of the Russo-Turkish War of 1768-1774, the battle ended with the Ottoman fleet being completely destroyed by the Russians.
