Editor's Note
The Eskihisar Viaduct Bridge is a strategic railway bridge whose construction began in 1872 under Sultan Abdulaziz during the Ottoman period and which later became an important part of the Hejaz Railway in the reign of Abdulhamid II. This route, used by pilgrims travelling from Istanbul to Mecca, also played a critical role in transporting military munitions during the Gallipoli campaign. Although some sections of the bridge were destroyed when it was blown up in a sabotage by the British officer D'Oyly-Hughes in 1915, five of its piers have survived intact to the present day.
