Editor's Note
It was built in 1880, during the Ottoman Empire, by French contractors on the delta at the Halisburnu locality where the Kızılırmak River flows into the sea. It is a very important waypoint lighthouse for ships navigating this stretch of the Black Sea. Because the ground it stands on is a delta, it was built on iron pipe piles driven into the soil. It was constructed as an entirely steel structure, with steel lattice profiles around a 22-metre cylindrical steel tower. The lighthouse's height above the sea is 25 metres, and the tower itself is 22 metres tall. Its flash characteristic is Fl.W.5s.
