Editor's Note
It is said to belong to Abu al-Darda, the standard-bearer of the Prophet Muhammad. However, according to historical sources, it is likely that a tomb was later built in memory of Abu al-Darda, who is thought to have stayed in this area for a time while passing through during the siege of Istanbul in the 50th year of the Hijra, and that the site came to be regarded as a spiritual shrine. According to an undocumented tradition, the tomb is said to have been built by Toscuoğlu Hacı Rıfat Efendi, one of the Muftis of Bartın, though the year is unknown. Available sources indicate that it was repaired after being completely destroyed by fire roughly a hundred years ago.
