It has a broadly oval plan. It is one of the large redoubts, 200 m wide. Until fairly recently it was used as a depot by military units. It was built between 1886 and 1888 by İsmail Hakkı Bey and the Fortification Commission. It is one of the 24 redoubts that formed Edirne's line of defense and encircled the city.
