Editor's Note

After the fire of 1903 in Edirne, which caused great destruction in the Kaleiçi district, Edirne's Jewish community was also severely affected. Built in the aftermath of this fire in 1905, the building opened for service as the Alliance Israélite (Alliance School). The school building was donated to Edirne's Jewish community by a wealthy Jew residing in Paris. After the Alliance School, the building housed the Turkish Jewish School, which was abolished in 1939. In 1940 the building was allocated to the army and used as a military hospital.
