The origins of the stone bridge over the Tunca River at the exit of Edirne are accepted to go back as far as the Roman period. M. Paranika, a Greek author who years ago carried out a study of the Byzantine inscriptions in Edirne, concluded from the Greek letters he saw on some of the bridge's stones that it was a Byzantine structure.
