Editor's Note
The bridge has no original inscription, and some sources state that it dates to the Byzantine period and is named as it is because of its proximity to the Yildirim Beyazid Mosque. It was repaired in 1544 during the reign of Suleyman the Magnificent, and a repair inscription was added. The inscription pavilion in the middle and the railings were installed during this repair. The bridge, which is effectively a continuation of the Gazi Mihal Bridge, was probably built to guard against floods of the Tunca River and therefore mostly stands over dry land. Source: [1] (2013).
