Kırklareli Osmanlı Kışlası

Editor's Note

During the Russo-Turkish War of 1878-1879, the Russians who occupied the city of Kırklareli built military headquarters in this area. After the occupation, the buildings, damaged by the retreating Russian army, were repaired and used by the Ottoman army; however, following the Balkan Wars and the subsequent Greek occupation of 1920-1922, the barracks were burned by Greek forces. This is why the area is known as Yanık Kışla (Burnt Barracks). Military lodgings were built near the barracks site during the Republican period and were demolished in recent times.
