With the outbreak of the Second World War in 1939, in view of Kırklareli's strategic position and the need to bring administrative units and services together in one place, the foundations of today's Provincial Government Building (the present-day governorate complex) were laid in 1939. Construction of the building, whose ground floor was completed that same year, was suspended until 1944 owing to wartime conditions. It was completed with an inverted-T plan and opened for service on 13.06.1947. The influence of the Second National Architecture Movement (1930-1950) can be traced in its plan design.
