Eupatoria, also known as Magnopolis, was a Hellenistic city within the Kingdom of Pontus. It was founded by Mithridates VI on the Phanaroea plain between the Lycus and Iris rivers.

A Hellenistic city on the Phanaroea plain between the Lycus and the Iris, near Kızılçubuk village in Erbaa, Tokat; it was founded by Mithridates VI of Pontus. The position was no accident: the east-west road between Armenia Minor and Bithynia crossed the north-south road from Amisos to Caesarea Mazaca here. After the kingdom of Pontus fell, the city was annexed to the Roman Republic by Pompey the Great and took the name Magnopolis. Strabo visited the place. The city began as a Pontic foundation and carried on as a Roman one.
