It is said that the first small mosque on the site of this rectangular-plan, wooden-ceilinged, masonry mosque was built by Ahmed Dede in the year 1300. The earliest record of the mosque appears in the 1860 endowment deed of Ahmed Ziyaeddin Efendi, in connection with the adjacent dervish lodge buildings. In 1986 its minaret was damaged by a lightning strike. Although its exact construction date is unknown, since it is known to have been supported by endowment revenues from Sultan Ahmed I, who died in 1617, the mosque is thought to date to the 17th century.
