Story

Located in the coastal town of Mudanya, the Armistice Monument is an important monumental structure erected to commemorate the Armistice of Mudanya signed on these lands in 1922. At the climax of the War of Independence, this critical negotiation conducted with the Allied Powers brought the two warring sides to the peace table, securing a ceasefire and forming the cornerstone of the road to Turkey's independence. With its imposing stance and a silhouette that endures through time on the calm shore of the Aegean, the monument invites visitors to feel the weight of history. The diplomacy conducted by Foreign Minister Bekir Sami Kunduh opened the door to the 1923 Treaty of Lausanne. Visitors coming to Bursa can sit beside the monument, gaze out at the Sea of Marmara, and understand how precious the independence won through the determination of the Anatolian people truly is.
