Editor's Note
Pompeiopolis, which takes its name from its founder, the general Pompeius Magnus, is one of the Roman cities founded in 64/63 BC in the interior of the Black Sea region. Because of the climate and its use over the centuries as a stone quarry, few of the ancient city's structural remains are visible above ground. To prevent Pompeiopolis from being destroyed and to restore it to history, the Institute of Classical Archaeology of Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich has been carrying out scientific excavations there since 2006. The excavations conducted so far have brought to light important data about the ancient city.
