Demirkapı castle, near the Saray district of Tekirdağ, is a defensive work founded in the Byzantine period, in the 4th century. Guarding the passes and roads of inland Thrace, the castle was a link in the frontier defence network. The surviving wall traces offer a record of the region's early Byzantine period.
