Editor's Note
Built in the middle of the town of Saray, which lies south of Vize on the road running from Büyük Karıştıran to Midye (now Kıyıköy) on the Black Sea coast, the Ayas Paşa Mosque essentially formed a small complex together with its medrese and bathhouse, and to its north stood a palace belonging to Ayas Paşa, after whom the town is named. According to Evliya Çelebi (Seyahatnâme, VI, 135), this palace, originally built by Murad I Hudâvendigâr, was repaired by Ayas Paşa and used for rest and entertainment.
