Editor's Note
The fountain, accepted as part of the Çorlu Fatih Mosque complex, is the oldest known among the Ottoman fountains in Çorlu. The mosque was commissioned in 1453 by Daye Hatun, the wet nurse of Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror, to crown the sultan's conquest of Istanbul, and was presented to him as a gift. Since no inscription survives, the fountain's construction date is taken to be the same as the mosque's. Built during the construction of the mosque, the Fatih Fountain is the earliest dated of the historic Ottoman fountains in Çorlu.
