In the second half of the 19th century, and especially after the Russo-Turkish War of 1877–78, the state had school-mosques built between 1900 and 1905 through the Imperial Estates (Emlak-ı Hümayun) to meet the religious needs of immigrants arriving from the Balkans and to educate their children. Most of the mosques in the region are among these, newly built to a single standard design. The Naipyusuf Village Mosque was built to the same plan and specifications.
