The Santa Maria Catholic Church is located in the Ortahisar district of Trabzon. The complex of a church, a guesthouse and two auxiliary buildings was built between 1869 and 1874 by Sultan Abdülmecid for tourists coming to Trabzon. The three-aisled basilica is covered by a barrel vault topped with tiles and contains many icons and frescoes. The building still serves as a church today.
