Editor's Note
The Kemerkaya Greek College period: Contrary to popular belief, educational activities in the building of the Kanuni Anatolian High School began not in the 1900s but much earlier, in the 17th century. The school was first founded in 1682 (or 1630) by Kiminiti, who came as director from the Academy of Athens in Budapest. Initially training religious leaders, the school later focused on teacher training and began to meet the teacher needs of Greek schools throughout the Balkan region; it produced clergy, historians, scientists, writers, and merchants.
