The Trabzon İş Bankası building was commissioned in 1902 by Konstantin Kabayanidis / Kostas Kapagiannidis, one of Trabzon's Levantines. Born in Trabzon in 1868, Konstantin Kabayanidis was the second child of the merchant Grigoris Kapagiannidis and his wife Domna Amirogli. After his father transformed his small wholesale business into a large company, Konstantin took over the company's management in the 1890s; together with his father and his brother Alcibiades, he founded the Kapagiannidis Bank in 1904. Involved in international maritime trade as well, Kabayanidis carried out many building projects in Trabzon's city center.
