Editor's Note

The wall remains located within the Fish Hall in the Pazarkapı district formed the western side of the small bay-shaped inner harbor during the Roman period. Considered part of the Lower Castle (Aşağı Hisar) walls during the period of the Komnenos Kingdom, these remains constitute a concrete example of the change the area has undergone over the course of history. The discovery of a Roman-period quay during the 2021 Kadınlar Hali rescue excavation has made these remains all the more meaningful.
