The Kuzgundere Aqueduct is an important water structure in the Ortahisar district, on the Kuzgun Stream, dated to the reign of the Byzantine Emperor Justinian (527–565). The fact that historical sources mention Justinian having an aqueduct built in honor of Saint Eugenius indicates that this structure also belongs to the same period. The aqueduct is thus considered one of the rare examples of water engineering reaching back to Trabzon's early Byzantine period. Built using cut and rubble stone, the Kuzgundere Aqueduct had a single arch in its first phase.
