İsmetpaşa Mektebi

Editor's Note

İsmetpaşa School was built in the last quarter of the 19th century. A continuation of the schools commissioned during the reign of Sultan Abdülhamid II, this structure is a two-story school built using masonry technique. Because it sits on sloping ground, the building's floor height decreases toward the top, while it rises on the front part facing the street. This created a marked sense of movement in the facade composition. On the front facade facing the street, the bay-window (cumba) form so often seen in the traditional houses of Trabzon stands out.
