Hasanpaşa Barracks was built in 1884-1885, during the reign of Abdülhamid II, as part of the Hasanpaşa Barracks complex, designed to serve administrative and accommodation functions. For many years known popularly as the Yellow Barracks (Sarı Kışla) because of its yellow exterior paint, the structure is one of the prominent examples of the military architecture of its era. Set on a rectangular plan running east to west, the barracks consists of four adjoining blocks arranged in a stepped layout.
