Editor's Note
Vartan Village, today called Vatan Village, is a Circassian settlement near Kayseri. It is said that in 1915 some Armenians were saved from the deportation by the Circassians of the village, and that Circassianized Armenians still live there today. The old settlement is in ruins today, and the new village settlement has moved south of the old village. The excavation marks seen in many parts of the village show that treasure hunters were once active here.
