The Non-Muslim Cemetery, also known as the Armenian Maşatlık, lies in Kayseri's Battal Gazi neighborhood and stands out as one of the oldest surviving non-Muslim cemeteries in the city. Its history goes back to the same area as the hill where Kayseri's first settlement was founded, and the Roman-period rock tombs seen in the rocky areas around it show that this district was a continuously inhabited site from very ancient times. Its popular name "maşatlık" comes from this word borrowed from Greek meaning cemetery, and from the once-dense Armenian population in the area.
