The Kozanoğlu Madrasa, whose exact construction date is unknown, was built by Kozanoğlu Ahmed Bey, known by the title "Derebeyi" (feudal lord). Also popularly called the "Zencirli Madrasa" (Chained Madrasa), the building stood in Sinan Bahçesi in Kayseri, across from what is today the Wyndham Grand Hotel, and was adjoined to two other madrasas. The teaching post at the madrasa was held first by Küçük Hacı Hafız Efendi and then by his son Ahmed Efendi.
