The Surp Krikor Lusavoriç Church, the first known Armenian church in Kayseri, was built in 1191. This house of worship, known by the name Surp Krikor, survived until the 17th century and appears under the same name in records from 1653. Repaired or rebuilt in various periods over the centuries, the structure has reached the present day and held a central place in the spiritual and social life of the Armenian community. The church, which fell into ruin or was completely destroyed in the first half of the 19th century, was rebuilt in 1859.
