Editor's Note
Hoca Hasan Madrasa was built in Kayseri in 1193 and is considered the city's second-oldest known madrasa after the Melik Gazi Madrasa. Today the structure is largely ruined; however, some of its remains still stand. The madrasa has a rectangular plan and consists of spaces parallel to a barrel-vaulted courtyard. The inscription of the building, constructed using cut stone, rubble, and rough stone, states that Hasan, son of Ebubekr, that is Hoca Hasan, had this madrasa built by order of Melik Sultanşâh, son of the Anatolian Seljuk ruler Kılıçarslan II.
