Ortan Köyü Camii

Editor's Note

It stands in the village of Ortan in the Çamlıhemşin district of Rize and is reached by a footpath. The building is mentioned in the hurufât registers, which record that a sum was set aside for its imam in 1766. Given the mosque's general features, however, the date 1766 seems very early; it is therefore thought that the first mosque collapsed and the present building was erected later, in the late nineteenth or early twentieth century.
