Editor's Note
Rize is a coastal city in the eastern part of the Black Sea Region of Turkey and the seat of Rize Province. Lying to the east of the historic Pontus region, it was part of the Lazistan Sanjak in Ottoman times. Since the border with Georgia opened in the early 1990s, the coast road has been widened and the town has grown much wealthier; the Rize-Artvin Airport opened in 2022.
