The castle in the Kalecik Quarter of the Araklı district stands on a small peninsula that slopes gently toward the sea and has a quite steep face on its north side. Founded on a small granite mass about 30-40 meters high, the castle runs north to south and forms one of the small garrisons lined up in a row along the Black Sea coast. With its architecture and a plan resembling other small castles built here and there along the coast, it is recognized as a typical Byzantine castle.
