A castle near the village of Zigana, on the Han Stream, of which no clear remains survive today, was recorded in 1404 by the Spanish envoy Clavijo. Clavijo noted that the castle was in the hands of the Greek nobleman Kyril Kabasita, who protected the region against Turkish raids with small castles. Kabasita collected taxes from the local people and from caravans. Owing to Zigana's strategic location, the castle was an important passage point throughout history.
