The Zigana Caravanserai stands at a strategic point on the historic Silk Road route along the Trabzon-Gümüşhane line. Its architectural style indicates it was built in the 13th century during the Anatolian Seljuk period; however, some sources attribute the building to Hüsrev Pasha, the Beylerbey of Van, dating it to the Ottoman period. The structure occupies a rectangular area of 17 by 24 meters running east to west.
